Position Summary

Graduate Mental Health Nurse Program 2023 – Mercy Mental Health

Graduate Mental Health Nurses are an integral part of Mercy Health’s commitment to develop our future workforce and we welcome Graduate Nurses to join our team to provide compassionate and responsive care to people in need.

Our program is designed to support and guide the Graduate Nurse whilst making the transition from student to Registered Nurse, and provide educational opportunities to Graduates as they consolidate their theoretical knowledge and clinical skills. This is a structured program with a comprehensive orientation, paid professional development days, and strong clinical supervision and reflective practice imbedded into the program, all which are supported by a dedicated Learning and Development team.

Upon successful completion of the program, Graduates will be presented with a certificate of completion.

Our program has been endorsed by The University of Melbourne and RMIT, and awards Graduates with a credit point deduction from the Graduate Diploma of Mental Health Nursing upon successful completion of the first year of the Graduate Program

  • Part Time Fixed Term Contract (2 years - first year Graduate Program; second year Postgraduate Program)
  • 64 Hours per fortnight
  • Commencing in February 2022
  • Positions could be located at Werribee Mercy Hospital - Clare Moore Building, Community Care Units - Werribee or Footscray Hospital - Ursula Frayne Centre (till mid 2023 and covering Hobsons Bay area thereafter).

All applications must include the following documents:

  • Letter of application stating preferred hospital location, areas of clinical interest, rationale for choice and future career plans
  • A 600 word or less statement about why you are selecting Mercy Health, your reasons for applying to a graduate program and why you are interested in the mental health stream
  • Curriculum vitae, relevant experience and clinical rotations
  • Two clinical referees, including their professional title, place of work and both email and phone contact details
  • Certified copy of academic transcripts to date (including ‘key to results’)
  • Two recent and certified acute clinical appraisals (one appraisal must be from a mental health setting)

Mercy Mental Health is a public mental health service supporting people in south west metropolitan Melbourne with severe and complex mental illnesses by providing acute and community-based care. Services are available to adults through acute inpatient programs, residential rehabilitation programs and crisis and community recovery-focused treatment programs. We also deliver inpatient and community specialist perinatal mental health services to women and infants in western Victoria.
