Position Summary

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the fastest growing ICU in the Western suburbs of Melbourne. We are now recruiting for Registrars in Intensive Care Medicine for 6-12 month terms starting February 2020. Joint rotations for ICU Registrars are available in Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine.

The ICU at Werribee Mercy Hospital is an 8 bed level 2 metropolitan unit, runs the adult rapid response system in the hospital and has additional responsibility for a monitored bay area (MBA) of 8 beds. It is equipped to provide hemodynamic support, complex hemodynamic monitoring, non-invasive and invasive ventilator support and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). It provides an excellent opportunity to get hands on training in adult critical care medicine with a case mix of acute medical, acute and elective surgical, obstetric and mental health patients in a supportive and collegial environment. Registrars get protected teaching time to attend the vibrant training program, combining didactic with case based and simulation based learning, run by the senior medical staff group. 

The ICU is accredited for Foundation Training with the College of Intensive Care Medicine. The Departments of Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine are accredited with the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (for advanced training) and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (for basic training) and training time across all three specialities would be accredited to the relevant training programs.

 

 ABOUT YOU:

  • MBBS or equivalent,eligible for or currently registered as a medical practitioner with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • At least three years of post-graduate experience.
  • Demonstrated experience using excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with patients, relatives, medical and nursing colleagues, allied health, ward staff and administration staff to ensure the appropriate management of the patient.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership where required.
  • A commitment to the importance and provision of teaching at all levels, including medical, nursing, scientific and allied health professional staff, both postgraduate and undergraduate.
