Position Summary

 Saltwater Clinic has an opportunity to join the Community Mental Health Team. This is a unique team providing clinical mental health care to residents of the Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay municipalities.  This position is operationally responsible to the Saltwater Clinic Program Manager, clinically to the consultant psychiatrist and professionally accountable to senior of discipline for all matters relating to professional practice.

We are dedicated to providing a caring and high quality range of specialist, community mental health services for youth & adult people who are experiencing, or are at risk of developing a serious mental illness.

About you:

The senior clinician works with a multidisciplinary community mental health team providing recovery focused care and OT specific assessments to consumers experiencing mental illness.   • Demonstrate behaviours that support a Recovery approach to care
  • Negotiate multiple complex systems of care to the benefit of service users and their families
  • Ensure that treatment and care is delivered in a manner, which is sensitive to language, family needs, cultural gender and individual differences and  within the regulatory framework applicable to clinical mental health services.
  • Ensure that service users and families are aware of their rights and responsibilities and are provided with information about their treatment and care.
  • Provide user-friendly, accurate, relevant information to service users, carers and families.
  • Participate in the review of therapeutic goals, treatment and care within the clinical review setting.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and maintenance of a therapeutic environment and a collaborative team atmosphere.
  • Deliver, participate in and contribute to ongoing professional development activities and in-service training. 
  •  Registration under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act (2009) with the Occupational Therapy Board of      Australia.
  • Comply with all legal requirements pertaining to the position including responsibility for maintaining current registration as required by your professional organisation or other applicable Acts.
  • Experience in conducting a holistic assessment of the person and their informal and formal systems, inclusive of case formulation and treatment planning
  • Advanced skills in working within a Recovery Model inclusive of family sensitive practice
  • Highly developed written and verbal skills.
  • Highly developed organisational skills, inclusive of advanced time management
  • Continuous ability to problem solve, negotiate and communicate with staff and other service providers.
  • Demonstrated advanced capacity for initiative and an ability to work appropriately with limited direction.
  • Extensive  background  in working with people  and their families where mental illness is a component of their lives
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Commitment to working with service users from various ethnic backgrounds.
  • Reputation for inspiring others to deliver high quality clinical care that is timely and person centred.
  • Skills in liaison, collaboration and negotiation with other service providers, service users and carer groups and other community agencies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Computer literacy is essential
  • Current Driver’s License

Mercy Mental Health (South West Area Mental Health Service) is a public mental health service supporting people in south west metropolitan Melbourne with severe and complex mental illnesses by providing acute and community-based care. Services are available to adults through acute inpatient programs, residential rehabilitation programs and crisis and community recovery-focused treatment programs. We also deliver inpatient and community specialist perinatal mental health services to women and infants in western Victoria.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Candidates are required to meet the position and qualification requirements.
