Position Summary

ABOUT THE ROLE:

An exciting opportunity to use your expert coding, documentation and casemix funding knowledge outside of Health Information Services. As a CDIS you will drive documentation (paper and electronic) improvement initiatives at the point of care to ensure best practice, patient safety and appropriate funding. The position will work closely with staff in the clinical setting to provide advice, education and training. The CDIS will also support the objectives of the friendly Coding Quality Team to ensure job variety and ongoing professional development.

  • Permanent part time, 0.8 based at Mercy Hospital for Women in Heidelberg     
  • Subject matter expert in the area of Women’s and Children’s funding principles (particularly NICU) across Mercy Hospital for Women and Werribee Mercy Hospital.
  • Liaise as required with relevant staff at Werribee Mercy Hospital to ensure a consistent approach to documentation improvement initiatives
  • Daily review of inpatient medical notes to proactively identify and manage documentation deficiencies
  • Provide education to clinicians and develop resource material to address documentation issues  
  • Make recommendations to improve clinical documentation and data variables impacting revenue
  • Oversee systems that capture CDIS interventions
  • Act as a conduit between the coding team and clinicians to ensure documentation supports optimal coding with identified deficiencies rectified prior to discharge
  • Perform quality audits of coded data and provide feedback and education to the coding team

 

ABOUT YOU:

  • Minimum 3 years coding experience including neonatal and obstetric coding
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ICD-10-AM coding and casemix funding principles
  • Previous CDIS experience is desirable but not essential
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and influencing skills
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively engage clinicians
  • High attention to detail and a passion for documentation improvement to support coding quality
  • Relevant tertiary or postgraduate qualifications in Health Information Management or equivalent
  • Eligible for full membership of the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA)
